Fluorite
Honigspat, or Honey Spar, is an amber-coloured variety of Fluorite famous to the Wölsendorf Fluorite Mining District in Bavaria, Germany. This cabinet-sized specimen is from Marienschacht mine, one of the best-known sources of this attractive variety of Fluorite. It is entirely covered in deep orange translucent cubic crystals of Fluorite, individually reaching 1.4 cm on edge. These crystals are glassy, but contain abundant inclusions of Hematite (as tiny red spots) and Pyrite (as golden flecks). The specimen is not without damage, with many crystals showing rough surfaces or larger scale bruising, but its colour is extremely rich and vibrant for an orange Fluorite. Very few places in the world produce amber or orange Fluorite to rival this colour. Beneath the drusy orange crystals the matrix is massive white and purple Fluorite.
