Quartz var. Eisenkiesel
This is a very different sort of Quartz var. Eisenkiesel than what we normally see from the Wölsendorf Fluorite Mining District in Bavaria, Germany. This small cabinet-sized specimen is a cauliflower-like aggregate of finely crystallized Milky Quartz, the outer layer of which is bright orange-red due to inclusions of fine-grained iron oxides - Hematite. The Quartz aggregates are crystallized, but so fine-grained that their lustre is not glassy, but matt, making for an interesting texture. A very unusual and distinctive specimen from Hermine mine.
