This magnificently sharp 4 x 3.9 x 3.5 cm cube of colourless (to faintly greenish) transparent Fluorite on matrix is from the famous Kavalerovo Mining District in Primorskiy Kray, Far-Eastern Region, Russia. It looks a dead-ringer for Nikolaevskiy mine at Dalnegorsk which is within the same mining district, but perhaps there are other mines locally that have produced such magnificent Fluorite crystals. The crystal is superb, both externally and internally and sits perfectly for dramatic display. On the outside its faces are smooth and glassy, with just a couple of small areas of etching/frosting. Its edges and corners are mostly remarkably pristine, with just two corners very slightly nicked and with a few tiny chips along lower edges. Otherwise it is stunning. Internally, several cleavage planes are visible, but with the window-like faces, looking in upon these is like peering into another world. The matrix is rock coated with finely crystallized Quartz, Galena and Pyrite. Ex Arvid Pasto collection, no. AEP1137. Most specimens like this from the Kavalerovo Mining District came out during the 1980s and 1990s and have not been repeated. A special Fluorite crystal which really does look the part.
