Bastnasite on granite matrix
These sharp, lustrous bastnaesite crystals remain some of the most desired examples of what is now a very well known locality, but these first came to market in the early 2000s and sent a shock through the mineral community. The style, the isolated and sharp crystal perched on granite, remains unique to this day despite other finds of larger crystals, loose crystals, etc...all different styles. This crystal is 1.6 cm across, and just gorgeous as it sits. The mineral species is available widely now - just not quite like this in style. Still, what was once rare is now common enough as a species; and so we have actually reduced the price relative to what Jack paid a major dealer for it in the early 2000s with that in mind - although we still consider it quite special for the small group of people who want THIS style among all. Specimens from this pocket or find are now in major museums and collections, seldom available on the market. Shown as full page photo on figure 72 on page #85 of Addicted to Beauty: The Legacy of Jack Halpern (Mineralogical Record, March 2025). Laszlo Kupi photo.
