Beryl var. Morganite in Cleavelandite
This is a true antique and a USA classic, from 1960s finds by Norm Dawson at his own mine, the famous White Queen. Long the source of the most famous and finest morganite in North America, such specimens in any quality are scarce today. This piece was in Jack Halpern's collection by the mid 1970s and has remained there for 50 years, until now. When I first visited his home in the 1990s, it was the first genuine White Queen morganite of quality that I had ever been able to hold. It stayed in the same spot on a tall shelf by his entry door, as long as I knew of it; and now comes back to market cleaned and presented for the first time. The specimen, from this notoriously stingy pegmatite deposit, is remarkably complete and has no repairs nor restorations! You can look through the gem crystal, completely. It has simply been cleaned well, without being "labbed" to the extent that modern mineral labs can make gem crystals look more sparkly and shiny if they push a bit on the cleaning; because we believe there is value in this looking like the antique special piece it is, something so much more rare from the USA than from any other locality which produces today. The gem crystal sitting perfectly atop a natural perch of cleavelandite is 5.7 x 5 x 3 cm in size. This was one of Jacks top specimens, protected from sale or trading during the lifetime of the collection.
