Fluorite with BARYTE$950.00

Wire transfers available, to set up
Although Baryte is well-known from Okorusu mine it is rarely collected in its own right, probably because everyone gets drawn to the amazing brightly coloured Fluorite specimens instead, but also because the Baryte is not gemmy. Rarely, you can have both together, the yin and yang so to speak: brightly coloured translucent Fluorite crystals and opaque dull white Baryte. This cabinet-sized specimen comprises a dome-like aggregate of large (up to 3.5 cm on edge) cubic Fluorite crystals, some of which are twinned. These crystals are quite etched on their surface, providing a strange lustre, and looking initially dark purple in colour. However, internally they are translucent, with an aqua, sea blue colour, with purple zoned corners which shows up spectacularly around the thinner edges with good directional lighting. On one side of this cluster of Fluorite crystals sits a 2 cm long, well-formed, tabular orthorhombic white and grey Baryte crystal with another Baryte epitaxially overgrowing it. The middle part of the base of the Fluorite aggregate is a small area of rock matrix, which is opaque to light. One tempting consideration here, knowing how intensely coloured-zoned this Fluorite is, is to bore out the matrix and illuminate from within. It would be a gamble, but I am sure has the potential to be a mind-blowingly beautiful piece if done correctly.
