Fluorite
Erongo Mountain in Namibia is well-known to collectors of Fluorite for its remarkable "Alien-eye" crystals, as well as for the intensity and diversity of colours seen within its Fluorite. Backlighting is universally used to spot the very best specimens, and because the optical properties of many Erongo Mountain specimens are so remarkable that they really need to be highlighted for their beauty. This individual 3 x 2.7 cm cubic crystal of Fluorite is a cracker. Not only does it display a vibrant intense green core with zoned deep purple outer edges, but it presents a really characteristic form, with the corners and edges of the cube stepped with smaller individual cubes. The back and lower edges of the cube are missing, from where it was formerly attached to matrix, but from the top view it looks really nice, and with the lower parts of the crystal missing it allows light to penetrate more easily, thus enhancing its beautiful green colour. The display surfaces of the Fluorite are naturally etched, translucent, but with a rough, slightly pitted texture. A characterful individual Erongo Mountain Fluorite.
