Morganite
Two bright pink sharp euhedral morganite crystals separated by a ribbon of white cleavelandite make this specimen quite the eye catcher. This specimen is not only aesthetically pleasing but also historically important. Virgem da Lapa is had produced some excellent gem pegmatite minerals through it history many of the best being mined in 1974-1975. It is listed by “Minerals and Previous Stones of Brazil” Cornejo, 2010 as the second most import locality for Morganite in Brazil. The Mineralogical Record Vol. 13 No. 1, 1982 ran an excellent article stating that “Today these specimens are the pride of important collections and museums around the world. The district of Virgem da Lapa will always be considered to be one of the finest localities in the world for well crystallized minerals. In a period of two years , mineral collectors were exposed to the finest array of pegmatite specimens ever discovered” This was a small pegmatite and had limited production primarily worked by artisanal unlicensed miners producing small quantities.
