The La Collada mining area in Asturias, northern Spain has produced some of the world's finest Fluorite specimens, usually in shades of purple, but blue and colourless too. Specimens are known to have complex crystal forms too, centred around the standard cubic form, but with edge-modifications resulting sometimes in prominent beveled edges. This superb pure crystal aggregate of Fluorite is from La Viesca mine, a mine with a rich history of specimen grade Fluorite production. This particular specimen displays the rarer bluish colour, but with purple undertones. The crystals are glassy, translucent, and reach over 3 cm on edge with fine development of the characteristic beveled edges. There is notably a 'bite' out of the edge of one crystal towards the front of the specimen, not on the two main crystals but one joining below. Despite this, it sits wonderfully for display and looks great with backlighting.
