Zircon
This interesting Russian Zircon specimen is from the rarely seen Miask (Miass) occurrence in the Ural mountains. Cabinet in size, it is a predominantly black glossy micaceous Biotite matrix within which many small clove-brown Zircon crystals can be seen embedded. The most prominent crystal is 9 mm in length and presents a quite different form to most Zircons - almost monoclinic. Most of the smaller crystals (typically around 3 to 4 mm in size) are much more equant in shape and slightly paler in colour. The specimen comes from the collection of Professor Dr H. Siegmund of Vienna, who recorded acquiring it in 1958. His number label is also attached to the specimen. For collectors of Zircon this is likely to be a really interesting piece.
