NATIVE Copper
Juno mine at Tennant Creek in Northern Territory, Australia was a major gold-copper-bismuth mine which closed in 1981. It is rare to see specimens from this locality, and rarer still to see Native Copper. This small cabinet specimen is probably a survivor from the 1970s, being in the enormous Native Copper collection assembled by David Hardman between the 1960s and recent times. The Native Copper extends the full length of the specimen and is intergrown with Quartz and possibly Calcite. Much of the Native Copper is uneven, perhaps hackly, but towards the wider end of the specimen crystals can be seen. This is certainly one of the more unusual locality pieces from the Hardman collection.
