Bournonite
A single, detached "cog-wheel" Bournonite crystal from the classic British occurrence at Herodsfoot mine in Cornwall. Herodsfoot mine is not the Type Locality - that is Wheal Boys elsewhere in Cornwall - but was, for many years the world's premier locality for crystallized Bournonite and remains the most sought after occurrence for specimens. This crystal, which measures 3.6 cm in length displays the most amazing patina - an oily iridescent blue with purple hues. The stepped, serrated crystal faces are sharp and well-defined with the only damage being around the base and lower edges where it was at some point removed from matrix. A tiny fragment of white Quartz is included within the Bournonite at one end. Ex Malcolm Southwood collection, no. MS 2005.029.
