A classic from the Cornish China Clay pits. This miniature specimen is fragment (including the termination) of colour-banded Quartz, with the outermost zone being dark Smoky to almost Morion in colour. It comes from Little Treviscoe China Clay Pit which was known to have produced fine deep Smoky Quartz crystals during the 1980s. This specimen entered Malcolm Southwood's collection in 1995 (no. MS 1995.018). Although the crystal is incomplete, the cross-section through repeated white and black zones is really interesting as is the distinctive triangular patternation on the pyramidal termination faces.
