Vesuvianite
This is an extremely fine, large and well-formed Vesuvianite from the world famous occurrence at Sierra de Cruces, Mun. de Sierra Mojada, Coahuila, Mexico which has produced some of the world's best crystals for size and form. The site came to prominence during the 1950s and 1960s through the Californian dealer George Burnham who initially provided a different locality name to prevent others from going direct to his source. Fine specimens are now rarely seen available other than from the recycling of older collections. This one comes from the superb systematic collection assembled by the brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021). It bears the classic yellow-orange colour so distinctive of this locality, and is not only very large for this occurrence - at 6.5 cm in length - but complete all-round as a 'floater'. It has a good glossy lustre and features at least one smaller crystal shooting off from one side. A Mexican classic, and a world-class Vesuvianite.
