This fine thumbnail aggregate of well defined silver sulphosalt crystals is from the superb systematic collection assembled by the brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021), but the naming and classification has moved on rapidly even within the past few years. Documented as Argentotennantite, this has itself been split into Argentotennantite-(Zn) and Argentotennantite-(Fe) and from what little information that is available it appears that the crystals from the famous Mexican silver mines in Temascaltepec Municipality are Argentotennantite-(Zn). The crystal aggregate is mounted, ingeniously, upon an upturned glass stopper allowing handling without damage to the specimen. For this reason the crystals are in excellent shape, sharp, and with an excellent deep purple-red colour and greasy, resinous lustre. The largest crystal is approximately 6 mm in length, but they are really well-defined. A fine Mexican silver ore specimen, highly collectible and in super condition.
