Malachite on Quartz
A beautiful small cabinet-sized display Malachite specimen is from the Tenke-Fungurume area in the Kolwezi mining district, DR Congo. The Malachite forms a fascinating, forest-like aggregate of short stalactites all developed parallel, but in stepped layers oblique to the surface of the specimen, upon a layer of greyish terminated pyramidal Quartz crystals. This is a fine artistic specimen of Malachite. The stalactites reach up to 2.5 cm in length, and are made up of stacked globules, providing an intriguing appearance. The stalactites coat 3/4 of the display surface. and although some of the Quartz crystals are damaged the Malachite is pristine, with a fine deep green colour and sparkly, glossy, lustre reminiscent of glitter. A fine display specimen.
