Malachite on Quartz
This small cabinet-sized display Malachite specimen is from the Tenke-Fungurume area in the Kolwezi mining district, DR Congo. The Malachite forms stacked globular-like masses, as stalactites developed parallel to each other, and almost flat to surface of the specimen, upon a layer of greyish-white terminated pyramidal Quartz crystals. The stalactites reach up to 3 cm in length, and display a fine deep green colour and sparkly, glossy, lustre .The stalactites coat 2/3 of the display surface. There is slight damage to a few of the Quartz crystals, some surface wear to the Malachite and two broken stalactites where the internal layering can be examined, but overall it displays nicely and is from an important African Malachite producing region.
