Witherite with Fluorite
A classic from Minerva No. 1 mine, Cave-in-Rock, Illinois - Kentucky Fluorspar District. This small cabinet Witherite displays an attractive radiating form, composed of tightly bunched long (1.5 to 2 cm in length) hexagonal prisms, or tapering crystals, widening at their termination to round, slightly domed hexagonal faces. Minor fragmentary yellow Fluorite is partially enclosed by the Witherite as is a small patch of brown Sphalerite. Some of the Witherite, particularly on the base and around the sides, shows bruising, but the main area of crystals displays nicely. Ex David Hardman collection, no. 2801. His faded label indicating that he acquired it perhaps pre-1980s.
