Microcline var. Amazonite
This is a fine, large, cabinet size, individual Amazonite crystal from the famous area of Pikes Peak, Teller County, Colorado, with a really vibrant blue-green colour and slight 'schiller' effect. The lower portion and back of the crystal are missing, where it was attached to matrix, but the upper crystal faces around its termination are really lovely and it displays nicely. One particularly pleasing feature of this specimen is its white cap, where a thin (1 mm thick) layer of white Microcline uniformly coats the top crystal face and a thinner white layer coats another of the smaller terminal faces. Three parallel fractures running vertically up through one side of the crystal are natural growth features and show rehealed surfaces. Ex David Hardman collection, no. 1636.
