Description
We have seen pink calcite, where the color is due to cobalt inclusions, from a number of mines and finds in the Congo over decades. However, this piece seems unique among them. It has a pastel pink color, pleasing but not strong particularly; but this color is contrasted to the ultra evergreen-green of the malachite!for a stunning visual look. The calcite is "etched" in appearance, as if a modern ice sculpture (in pink!), and yet it contrasts to the rolling velvety forms of the adjacent malachite for contrast of both texture and of color. It is just unique compared to what we have seen, pretty, relatively large, and draws the eye because of the contrasts. It came out of an old collection we purchased long ago and almost certainly dates to the late 1980s finds here.
