Quartz var. Amethyst (Scepter)
Madagascar, for some odd reason of geology, produces a lot of sceptered quartz with amethyst zones atop, whereas other quartz localities tend to produce scepters of smoky or clear quartz, one atop the other. The contrast here is, as you can see, something highly unusual and strong, with huge visual impact. The scepter is 6 cm from bottom to top, and is so sharp and geometric that it looks carved! From the private quartz collection of significant collector Bruce Oreck, which was sold a few years ago. This has no repairs nor restoration and has such a dramatic impact, that it leaps out to the eye.
