Calcite on Quartz$500.00

Wire transfers available, to set up
A classic miniature from the famous Levant mine near Land's End in Cornwall. Freestanding, thin, wafer-like pale orange-pink and white crystals of Calcite protrude from the 'base' of a bed of pyramidal Milky Quartz crystals displaying an orange-red, matt, outer layer, making it, I guess, technically Eisenkiesel. The specimen is beautiful and could, in theory, be displayed in one of two ways, but the delicate, paper-like crystals of Calcite would eventually be smashed if it was turned upside down to show the Quartz. Either way, it is a little beauty and probably dates to the 1980s working of the mine. For something so delicate there is remarkably little damage to the Calcite, or its form just hides any abrasions. The Quartz crystals have tiny nicks out of their terminations and one is missing a sloping pyramidal edge, but it is still remarkably attractive. Ex Malcolm Southwood collection, no. MS 2011.247.
