Calcite
Pink botryoidal crystallized calcite on hematite matrix from the Montreal Mine, Iron County, Wisconsin, in great condition and brightly fluorescent. The calcite forms smooth rounded botryoidal surfaces with attractive pink coloration that contrasts nicely with the dark metallic hematite matrix. Under ultraviolet light the calcite displays strong bright fluorescence, adding another dimension of visual appeal. The Montreal Mine is part of the historic Gogebic Iron Range, a major iron mining district active from the late 19th century through the 20th century. In addition to its economic importance for iron ore, the mine became well known among collectors for producing distinctive pink fluorescent calcite associated with specular hematite. Specimens from this classic Midwestern locality are prized for their color, fluorescence, and connection to an important chapter in American mining history.
