This is a robust cabinet specimen of Pyromorphite from the now famous Daoping lead-zinc mine in China, from the so-called "Apple Green Pocket" of 2003-4. It is immediately notable for both size and color impact, and jumps out from a shelf. Extremely lustrous and translucent, this colorful cabinet specimen of shows several dozen, larger, bright apple green, super lustrous crystals from 1 to 2 cm (!) in length clustered attractively on the granular cerussite-bearing matrix and in open vuggy areas. All of them are textbook hexagonal in habit with some crystals showing incipient hopper growth at some of the crystal terminations. There is also a later generation of pyromorphite as small, divergent sprays of almost needle-like crystals in patches and linear groups on the piece that add to the textural appeal by contrast! It is a really natural presentation of how these occur in nature, curving and protective of crystals within. This is a large, ideal example of the alluring, saturated, bright green color of pyromorphite for which this deposit is unequaled from one of the most famous - and early - finds. The contrast with the cream colored matrix certainly adds to the aesthetics! This is a large, very impactful piece from Jack Halpern's collection, where it has been for 20 years.
