This is a rare and extremely fine, display quality Smoky Quartz from Smokey Bear, White Mountain Wilderness, Lincoln Co., New Mexico, USA. At 9 cm tall, the main prismatic crystal stands dramatically, like a tower, surrounded at its base by a cluster of smaller, but still large terminated Quartz crystals arranged in a somewhat haphazard manner. The main crystal is really well-formed with no obvious damage other than at its base where it was detached from its host rock. The smoky colour is good, but its clarity, or transparency is nowhere near that of those from the European Alps, but there is no questioning that this is a really fine New Mexico Smoky Quartz.
