Sénarmontite, the isometric form of antimony oxide, was first discovered at Djebel Hammimat mine in Constantine Province, Algeria in the mid-19th century where it made up large parts of the ore within an extensive oxidation deposit. It is named after Henri Hureau de Sénarmont (1808-1862), Professor of Mineralogy at the School of Mines in Paris, who described the species. As an interesting new species specimens made their way into museums around the world. This fine miniature specimen is from the superb systematic collection assembled by the brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021). It is an almost pure aggregate of well crystallized octahedral Sénarmontite crystals from Djebel Hammimat mine, individually reaching 5.5 mm across. There is some minor damage to crystals which should be expected based on its age and the softness of this species, but generally speaking it is in excellent condition with lots of perfect octahedral crystals all displaying the classic grey-white colour and resinous lustre.
