Baryte
A beautiful plate of sparkling, highly lustrous, bluish grey Baryte crystals from Baia Sprie (Felsöbánya) in Maramureș County, Romania. Mining at Baia Sprie began in the 14th century, mainly for its deposits of silver, with the last mine closing in only 2006. The Baryte forms superb books of parallel, semi-translucent blades, averaging about 2 cm wide and up to 4 cm. The crystals are glassy and naturally shimmer due to their sheer number, all set at slightly different orientations. The condition appears perfect with no visible damage. Although the blades are a light slate grey, they could be described as moonstone grey and certainly display a greyish teal blue cast. A stunning large cabinet specimen of lustrous Baryte from Baia Sprie which will display beautifully. This specimen comes with a Corrie Minerals label when they were based on West Coker Road, but only a stone’s throw from our present showroom and offices. Keith and Lynn Corrie were renowned and highly respected for their high quality specimens.\n
