A rich example Linarite from Roughton Gill in the Caldbeck Fells of the English Lake district and more unusually, backed by a matrix of solid Galena. Although most well known from Redgill mine, well crystallised Linarite is known to occur at at least another ten localities throughout Roughton Gill. As is often the case, only the broader locality has been recorded, but anyone specialising in this area will likely greatly narrow down its specific locality . Forming a small cabinet specimen a roughly 3 x 1.5 cm area of quite dark, inky blue Linarite crystals cover creamy Quartz layer capping the Galena. Other Linarite crystals are present on the specimen. Only a few linarite crystals are perfect, yet the overall coverage is rich and aesthetic. Micro-crystals of Quartz and cerussite are also present, and possibly some very pale blue green Caledonite, although the latter is minor. A rather scrappy old(ish) label accompanies the specimen, No. 3252 and named "Cupreoiy sulphate of lead" with "linarite" added above.
