Grossular
Grossular Garnet can occur in several colours including red and cinnamon brown, yet derives its name from the green form after its similarity to the gooseberry and its Latin name, grossularia. This superb example is of the green type and comes from the Merelani Hills within the Lelatema Mountains in the Manyara Region of Tanzania. The specimen's maximum diameter is 2.3 cm and although being overall translucent, much of the near-surface is a transparent to gemmy light apple to spring gooseberry green, with quite a bit of 'zing'! As the video clearly shows, one side of the crystal have a little matrix from its point of attachment, whereas the remaining crystal is well developed, displays many well formed faces.
