Hematite var. Kidney Ore$5,000.00

Wire transfers available, to set up
A charming display specimen of botryoidal Hematite of the variety known as Kidney Ore from an extremely rare west Cumbrian locality. Laid out like a crouched animal, this somewhat linear botryoidal mass presents itself superbly. The upper surface shows large, smooth, rounded botryoids with a stunning patina. Small areas of the surface show where the thin outermost layer of the botryoids has been worn away, but this has revealed another layer of Hematite of slightly contrasting colour and lustre. Underneath, the base of the specimen has been polished, or smoothed at some point, but this does not detract from the undoubted attraction of this specimen. A small handwritten label documenting its remarkable provenance accompanies the specimen. Anty Cross mine was a relatively small mine and a late starter, opening during World War 1 and specimens are just never seen for sale from there. Admittedly, if this specimen was from a more common occurrence the price would be much lower, the appeal and value of this specimen lies in the combination of quality, aesthetics and superb provenance history. Due to its weight, an additional charge for postage will be required.
