Fluorite
Classic, colour-changing green Fluorite from Rogerley mine, near Frosterley in Weardale. This small cabinet display specimen features several very large (to over 3 cm across) deep emerald green transparent twinned cubic Fluorite crystals. There are three main twins all of which display wonderful growth-lines on their surfaces. All of the crystals show some slight contact damage to edges or corners, but it is the sheer size, twinning, internal gemminess and striking colour that really make this specimen special. Move the specimen from artificial light indoors to daylight and the specimen transforms from deep emerald green to purple-blue in the blink of an eye. The Fluorite is on a small, but solid matrix of porous orange-brown limestone with minor patches of Galena underneath the Fluorite. Ex Brian Burton collection.
