Description
This must rank up there as one of the finest European thumbnails, or small miniature specimens known! When I first saw it my jaw dropped as I wasn't even sure that such a Mimetite was possible from such an iconic locality as Johanngeorgenstadt - the Type Locality. The Mimetite crystal measures an impressive 11.5 mm long, but it is its width, at 10 mm, and absolutely superb shape, with beveled edges around the edges of the termination that make it stand out. On top of that, it has a lovely dappled burnt orange colour, with zoning, and fine resinous lustre. It is perched gracefully on top of a small piece of iron-rich matrix alongside a baby Mimetite, at 2 mm across. Simply remarkable. History wise, it has passed through the collections of Franz and Waltraud Maginot, Michael Schwab and Manfred Baumstark in Germany and their labels remain with it.
Known provenanceKnowing where your specimen comes from and who owned it adds to its story and value. Good provenance helps prove it's authentic and preserves important details about its discovery.
