Fluorite with Galena

A stunning large cabinet specimen of Fluorite with Galena from Blackdene mine by the village of Ireshopeburn in Weardale, County Durham, England. It is a specimen of both museum quality and size and would therefore look magnificent in any collection. Taking centre stage is a large, titled Fluorite crystal measuring 8.5 x 7.5 x 5.8 cm with sharp, perfectly formed and undamaged edges, with smooth faces of opaque blackberry purple mottled with creamer shades of purple. This crystal is surrounded by a bed of intergrown smaller Fluorite crystals, all preferentially coated with a pervading layer of Galena micro-crystals. The maximum size of any of these Galena crystals is 1 mm, although most are smaller. These are mainly unmodified cubes, yet some do display corners modified to the octahedron. The entirely purple Fluorite display face is underlain by a matrix of massive Fluorite in a mottled mixture of sea greens, pale purple and white. Under LWUV the display face is largely non-fluorescent due to the continuous coverage of Galena crystals, those un-coated faces fluoresce deep violet while the green underside is bright whiteish lavender. Under SWUV the exposed Fluorite faces fluoresce dull ethereal purple while the massive green zones are reasonably bright, mottled pale lavender, cream and white. Please note this is a heavy specimen and may incur additional postage and packing costs.
