Wow, what an absolute stunner! Is this the ultimate Fluorite specimen? The Collada mine in Asturias, northern Spain has produced some eye-catchingly distinctive Fluorite crystals and Fluorite-Calcite combos and this specimen is definitely in the former category. Colourful, complex, and sometimes large, the Fluorite crystals are like a work of art. This cabinet size crystal aggregate consists of one main, very large Fluorite crystal, reaching over 7 cm on edge, from which other large crystals have grown as twins. These Fluorite crystals are absolute perfection, displaying the iconic crystal form of Fluorite from Collada mine: characteristic, wide, crazed, deep purple chamfered edges, contrasting against the paler purple to lilac coloured glassy interiors of the cubes. The main crystal faces, corners and edges are pristine and show fabulous detail. Indeed, the chamfered edges are so broad that it can be seen that the surface 'crazing' is actually caused by tiny stepped cubic surfaces. Internally, the crystals are translucent, and the main crystal displays a lovely powder blue colour on one side when backlit. This specimen specifically comes from the 75 Level on Josefa-Veneros vein and dates back to an early find. A gorgeous Fluorite worthy of the finest collection.
