Chalcophyllite
Great specimens of the rare hydrated secondary copper arsenate Chalcophyllite are not common these days , so it is with great pleasure we offer this small cabinet specimen from Wheal Unity in Gwennap parish, Cornwall. The type locality for Chalcophyllite is Wheal Gorland which is adjacent to Wheal Unity, working the same lode. Even the matrix is rather fascinating, a dark grey, part-brecciated to cellular sulphide-rich rock with a micro-crystalline smoky apple green patch coating. I suspect this is Chenevixite but am not certain. Whatever, it greatly compliments the hexagonal intergrown Chalcophyllite crystals of a metallic greenish turquoise richly coating large areas on all faces of the specimen. Some Chalcophyllite crystals measure to almost 1 cm and the long linked chain shown on the photo is 4.5 cm long. There also appear to be micro-crystals of metallic maroon Cuprite present. Ex Martin Ehrmann collection.
