Spinel$400.00

Clearly from a very old collection, this terrific example of a well formed Spinel crystal is mounted on a beautifully crafted, turned wooden stand and attached to it with moulded red sealing wax. This thumbnail specimen is from close to the town of Bo Phloi in Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand. This area is famous for its Sapphires, although Spinel is right up there in the tick list of species! On average, this specimen measures about 1.7 cm on edge, although a protuberance near its base appears to be a separate smaller Spinel, partly merged into its larger companion. The surface around this area are rounded, indicating it is from alluvial, water-worn gem gravels. The crystals are jet black and completely opaque. It is accompanied with a very old label ‘A. Jahn, Plauen i.V., Oberer Graben 9’. This is a lovely example of a very early micromount.\n
