Just one of the many reasons we all (well, most of us) love Tsumeb is the paradox that the orebody hosted the best examples of many rare and ultra-rare species in the world, yet it was deficient in some of the most common elements, fluorine and iron for example. Try finding even just a micromount of Fluorite from Tsumeb and your mission, probably, would never be achieved! Although iron minerals were present in the orebody, they certainly were not common, so this beautiful miniature of quite gemmy, crystallised Siderite is indeed a rare beauty from this mine. Sharp-edged, curved bladed crystals cover a matrix of massive Siderite. The crystals form as gently tapering, curved gothic arches, displaying horizontal bands in differing shades and intensities of translucent to transparent, dark chocolate, clove, cinnamon and honey brown. It’s a fabulous miniature of this scarce Tsumeb species.
