Quartz var. Sceptre Quartz
Ramansdrift Farm 135 is almost as far south in Namibia as is possible to travel, sitting less than 10 km from the South African border. The locality has become well known for its superb Amethyst Quartz sceptres and this small miniature is a choice representative specimen. Capping a terminated hexagonal pale orange-pink iron oxide-stained translucent Quartz prism is a roughly 3 x 2.5 x 2 cm multi- and double-terminated glassy sceptre of intermixed deep inky amethystine purple with shades graduating towards pale lavender and colourless. The various shades and colours form interwoven diaphanous clouds and wisps of great beauty and the encapsulated reddish termination of the underlying prismatic quartz crystal makes an interesting internal 'phantom'. Part of the prismatic column is encrusted with colourless, sucrosic granular Quartz. The uppermost tip of the glassy sceptre crystal is very slightly chipped, but this does not detract too much from the fantastic overall aesthetics of this super specimen from this interesting locality. Ex Hans Engelbrecht collection.
