Calomel with Cinnabar and NATIVE Mercury$500.00

Wire transfers available, to set up
A great old-time specimen from the famous mercury-mining region at Landsberg (Moschellandsberg), Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany with superb heritage. This large miniature specimen has several small cavities (12 x 8 mm and 8 x 5 mm) containing microcrystals of Calomel and Cinnabar and blebs of silvery Native Mercury. A trail of five handwritten German labels accompany the specimen, one quite modern, but the others of considerable age. They all record the presence of Calomel (as Chloquecksilber) and Native Mercury (as Quecksilber) and the locality as Moschellandsberg, which is of course the Type Locality for Calomel. A very old blue-rimmed diamond-shaped label bearing the number 3358 is attached to the specimen and links to one of the handwritten card labels accompanying the specimen. Nothing is recorded about the previous collectors, but I am sure that with some detailed research the names of these historic collections could be pinned down. Several of the labels clearly date to the 19th century in their style.
