This terrific cabinet specimen displaying thin curved blades of milk chocolate coloured Siderite crystals averaging 7 mm wide and covering a light grey Quartz matrix rich in anhedral Galena and minor Chalcopyrite. One end of the display face is rich in 3 to 4 mm glassy, colourless Quartz crystals. This specimen is from Wood mine in the Bere Alston mining district in west Devon. This ancient mining area lies about 11 km (7 miles) north of Plymouth with many dating back to the 13th Century. These mines produced both lead and silver, the silver being a product of argentiferous Galena. This fine specimen is ex. the Glyn Cunnick Collection.
