Large, slightly flattened octahedral Magnetite crystals sit either side of a grey-green quartzite matrix from the Dashkesan Co-Fe Deposit in the Dashkesan District of Azerbaijan. One of this pair forms a good interpenetrant twin. Scattered over the matrix surface are small colourless to milky Quartz crystals, partly tinted light green with Epidote. Both the single and twinned Magnetite crystals are 2.5 cm across and are metallic black with a tint of chocolatey mahogany. The Magnetite exhibits no magnetism, having no effect on a paperclip; perhaps iron filings would be more effective? It’s a showy and well-crystallised Magnetite from Dashkesan and will look great displayed.
