Stellerite
The ore deposit at Rudny in Kostanay Province, Kazakhstan is situated in the far north of the country, quite close to the border with Russia. Of the seventy recorded mineral species from here, the zeolite Stellerite produces some of its most outstanding specimens and you can see why, based on this rather remarkable miniature. Translucent, light tan Stellerite crystals richly cover a druse of milky white Calcite crystals and also form two hemispherical globular domes. The larger of these is 2.7 cm in diameter and as light cannot readily pass through, the domes are a dark, almost chocolate tan. The outstanding feature is the lustre of both domes, so intense you remain convinced they must be either wet or made of jelly, even after touching! Truly remarkable.\n
