Galena and Calcite with Siderite on Quartz$8,500.00

Wire transfers available, to set up
Now closed for well over one hundred years, the mines at Neudorf in the Saxony-Anhalt State of Germany produced world-class specimens from the numerous mineralised veins within the Neudorf-Straßberg vein system (termed the Neudorf-Straßberger Gangzug). A lead-silver mining district, the silver was mainly produced from argentiferous Galena which occurred in Calcite-Siderite-Quartz veins. This spectacular cabinet specimen beautifully displays all four species, with silver-grey Galena, cream Calcite and light clove brown Siderite crystals almost entirely hiding a matrix of stubby, milky white Quartz crystals. The Galena is the star of the show, forming crystals to about 1.4 cm across, each composed of cubic, octahedral and dodecahedral faces. This combination became known as the Neudorf habit and they display with spectacular effect on this most handsome of specimens. \n
