For the collector specialising in the lead-zinc vanadate Descloizite, this fabulous example from Auros Farm 595 is a must! Auros Farm 595 is a less well recognised locality, also known as Berg Auros, situated approximately half way between Otavi and Grootfontein in the Otjozondjupa Region of Namibia. For geographical reference, Berg Aukas lies to the east of Grootfontein and Tsumeb to the north, with Tsumeb, Otavi and Grootfontein forming a triangle. Berg Aukas is, of course, the world capital of Descloizite and although it is not found at Tsumeb, it is present to the west of Tsumeb, the Uris and Karavatu mines for example. This example is a quite stunning intergrown mass of perfectly developed Descloizite crystals, of a uniform deep cinnamon brown and what can only be described as an unrivalled, brilliant lustre. Individual crystals average around 1 cm and are thick-set and blocky, quite difference to the more typical habits Descloizite. It’s a specimen which punches far above its weight with the added bonus of a locality probably not found in many collections. Certainly Karavatu Cannot match this quality and it is right up there with the more unusual crystal habits from Berg Aukas.\n
