Calcite
Double terminated, scalenohedral Calcite crystals with golden orange-yellow terminations require little introduction from the world-famous Elmwood mine at Carthage in Smith County, Tennessee, USA. Some ore deposits have the serendipitous fortune to not only produce excellent specimens but in plentiful supply! This particular cabinet specimen is dominated by an 8.5 cm long Calcite prism, one end of which terminates with a single, large point while the opposite end has multiple terminations forming juxtaposed small scalenohedrons in a ragged, feather-like structure. The crystal rests on a light grey Quartzite matrix encrusted with gemmy, tiny Quartz crystals. A 4.5 cm long Calcite crystal extends from the matrix, passing close to the multiple-terminated end. Beautiful.
