This beautiful, ex. matrix Smoky Quartz crystal is from the Grimsel area of the Hasli Valley close to Bern in Switzerland. This is a stunningly beautiful area of lakes and mountains throughout which the Alpine clefts contain the typical suite of minerals Switzerland is so famous for. The 8.5 cm tall crystal is opaque and jet black in reflected light with the resemblance of Morion. However, when held against the light it is a perfectly translucent to gemmy clove brown. Five of its six prism faces are fully intact while the remaining face carries a linear depression from former contact with another Quartz crystal. It is perfectly terminated and has an overall bright glassy lustre.
