FILIPSTADITE with Hausmannite and Bindheimite
This is a large miniature specimen of a real Långban rarity. Images of the rare iron antimony manganese oxide species Filipstadite from its Type Locality at Långban, Filipstad, Värmland, Sweden are rare, but specimens rarer still. This dense specimen consists of sparkling microcrystals of an unidentified bronze- to copper-coloured mica intergrown with spots and larger grains of dark grey metallic Filipstadite and Hausmannite. It is not clear where the Bindheimite is that is recorded, but there are likely many other unusual species present in this specimen. The specimen was most recently in a rare species collection in Austria, but prior to this was owned by Dr Hans-Jurgen Wilke (1925-2014) whose record card documents that he acquired it in October 1974 from Eric Jonsson at the Riksmuseet Stockholm. The rear of the specimen as shown in the video has absorbed a large quantity of grease from where it was one placed on mineral tack, but this is still a very important specimen of what remains to this day an extremely rare species.
