Tetrahedrite
This fine historic specimen of Tetrahedrite from the famous mercury mining region of Landsberg (Moschellandsberg) might well actually be the related species Tetrahedrite-(Hg) - based on its association with Cinnabar. Small cabinet in size, one upper surface (which slopes nicely for display) is richly encrusted in small (less than 2 mm), dark grey, metallic, sharply formed Tetrahedrite crystals, which themselves sit upon finely crystallized Siderite. Magnification reveals numerous tiny, red, well-formed Cinnabar crystals also upon the Siderite, and massive red Cinnabar is evident throughout the matrix. Two previous collection labels accompany the specimen. One, a modern German label, links the specimen across to the other much older and damaged label which is from the German dealer Arthur Kusche during the period (1911-1924). Oddly, the older label refers to Quicksilver - Native Mercury - but has been annotated by the later collector to include Tetrahedrite crystals. A very rich Tetrahedrite from this famous mercury-producing region of Europe.
