Cerussite
This gorgeous, three-dimensional, reticulated Cerussite may be displayed from either the front or back, as both sides are equally displayable and interestingly different. The overall dimensions of the display faces are 4.5 x 3.1 cm and I term this a 3-D specimen as the intersecting Cerussite blades give the specimen an average thickness of 9 mm, with near parallel opposite faces. This laterally constrained habit of Cerussite is observed in many specimens from Tsumeb and I assume they crystallised in an open fracture. Fracturing and faulting occurred over a wide range of scales throughout the Tsumeb orebody, hence open accommodation space was periodically available through such deformation, in addition to quite separate dissolution processes. The specimen is framed by several much thicker blades of Cerussite, all infilled by a reticulated array of much thinner blades. All the crystals are translucent to opaque milky white with a bright, glassy lustre. The reticulated habit is caused by cyclic twinning, a common attribute of Cerussite.
