Prehnite
This acidic lemon yellow Prehnite is from the much loved Loanhead quarry at Beith, to the southwest of Glasgow, Scotland. I say much loved as it was a favourite haunt of mineral collectors certainly throughout the 1980s, then an operating quarry which readily allowed collectors to visit and always supplied a steady stream of good specimens from micromounts to museum size! The Prehnite in this attractive small cabinet specimen is attached to a little dark basalt matrix with patches of white Calcite. The specimen appears to have been etched out of Calcite, indicated by changes in colour and its overall morphology. There remain large micro-crystalised areas which would have been visible when collected and not overgrown by Calcite.
